“Geomatics / GIScience”
12 August 2009
Geomatics / GIScience - Geosciences and other departments at University of Arkansas including Anthropology, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, and Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science offer curriculum in a variety of geomatics or geographic information science (GIScience) areas. Instructors in these departments have provided a list of geomatics / GIScience classes planned from Fall 2009 through Fall 2013:
Geomatics / GIScience-related Classes Planned
Both Geosciences and Anthropology offer a “Cartography / Remote Sensing / GIS” specialization at the undergraduate level. Geosciences also offers “GIS” and “Cartography” concentrations at the masters level. Details about these options can be found in the Catalog of Studies.
Certification - In addition to supporting various degree programs at the University, the geomatics / GIScience courses also support certification through American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA). ASPRS certification at both the “scientist” and “technologist” levels is available in GIS, remote sensing, and photogrammetry. URISA, through the GIS Certification Institute, offers the “GISP” (GIS Professional) designation.
GIS Computing - University of Arkansas GIS computing resources, operated by the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) and Geosciences, are among the best in the United States. For a description of the facilities, please visit the CAST website. Please contact Geosciences at 479-575-3355 for more information or to arrange a tour.
