Two New Scholarships!
Alumni surprised two of our senior faculty at the Geosciences spring banquet with the announcement of two fully endowed scholarships in their honor.
The Walter Manger and Doy Zachry Scholarships will be awarded for the first time next year to students in the geology program. Over eighty alumni have donated to the two funds thus far and more than twenty-five attended the banquet. Spring Break Field Trip Scholarship Fund
The Department of Geosciences announces a new fund to which alumni can contribute. The goal is to establish an endowment for the spring break field trip to allow as many students as possible to participate, independent of financial need. The field trip has always been an important part of departmental life, providing participants with experiences and memories not achievable in the classroom. We envision many more in the future.
After a hiatus of one year when Walt stepped down from leading the trip, the spring break adventure went again in March 2008. The destination
was eastern California, the Owens Valley, the Mojave, and Death Valley.
